File consists of Vane's handwritten and typed lecture notes for the first lecture, titled, "Introduction" in his series of pharmacology lectures given whilst at The Royal College of Surgeons. Details include:

Handwritten outline notes used to present the lecture.

Typed document reproducing the lecture in full. The section titles are; introduction; general pharmacology; definitions; the qualitative investigation of a drug; mode of action of drugs - the hypothesis of drug receptors; relation of drug action to drug structure; quantitative investigation of drug action; biological variation; standardisation of drug preparations; toxic effects; side effects inherent in the actions of a drug; and specific toxic effects.

Typed document reproducing the lecture in full which is very similar to the document above but has a few small amendments. In addition there are some handwritten notes attached including a page titled, "introduction for dentists".
