About this work
Description
Parentability was an NCT Network supporting pregnancy and parenthood for parents with disabilities. The group maintained a contact register to put disabled parents, and those considering parenthood, in contact with each other by telephone or in person. Individuals on the register received a quarterly newsletter or audio cassette for the visually impaired.
In 1981, the International Year of Disabled People, the Postnatal Committee set up a research project, resulting in the publication of the report, "The Emotions and Experiences of some Mothers with Disabilities", 1985. The findings of this report resulted in a Working Group being established, which became known as Parentability. In 1999, Parentability became its own distinct support network, although retaining close links to the NCT.
