    Instrument for Administering Horse Balls, &c. (:This Invention received Provisional Protection only,) PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION left by James Arnold at the Office of the Commissioners of Patents, with his Petition, on the 7th March 1872. I, James Arnold, of West Smithfield, in the County of Middlesex, 5 Surgical Instrument Maker, do hereby declare the nature of the said Invention for “ A New or Improved Instrument or Appliance for Adminis¬ tering Balls and other Medicines to Horses and other Animals,” to be as follows:— My new or improved instrument for administering balls and other 10 medicines to horses and other animals consists of a tube with a packed piston and a rod, the former serving as a guide to the latter. The tube terminates in a bell mouth, or is made bell mouthed or enlarged at one end, and into the bell mouth or enlarged portion I insert a mouth piece made of some flexible material such as india-rubber, and which is 15 screwed or otherwise attached thereto. The piston rod carries at the mouth piece end of the tube a button, the diameter of which corre¬ sponds as nearly as possible with that of the mouth piece. The piston rod is moved by a finger or thumb piece at the other end of the tube,
