About this work
Description
Notebook compiled by Storrs mainly comprising case histories from his own practice at Doncaster, but including in addition the texts of his papers read before the Sheffield Medical Society, on puerperal fever, 14 March 1845 (ff.51-62) and mercury poisoning, April 1846 (ff.76-86), respectively. A number of the later cases and the texts of the lectures were transcribed by an amanuensis, presumably an apprentice; Storrs is referred to in the third person in these case histories and himself criticises the accuracy of the transcription of the first paper: 'the foregoing paper ...was subsequently published in the Journal of the Provincial Medical and Surgical Society where it may be read as Mr Brereton I find in transcribing it has omitted many parts and transposed others so that no sense can be made of it here' (f.62).
The volume was subsequently used by Reginald Storrs, Robert's grandson , a student at St Bartholomew's Hospital, for notes on hospital cases in 1896 (ff. 86v-94).
There are notes on drugs entered from the rear of the volume, apparently by a certain ?P.O Pounsard, who was possibly one of Storr's apprentices (ff.163v-184).
