Biographical note
From 1940 Emergency Blood Transfusion Services occupied 2 small rooms in the Department of Bacteriology at Nottingham University. In 1945 the service moved to Sheffield City General Hospital (previously Sheffield had come under the aegis of the Leeds EBTS Centre; in 1946 it was relocated in a modified Civil Defence Gas Contamination Centre, opened by HRH The Princess Royal. In Nov 1971 a new Centre was opened in Longley Lane
