Reproduction of a human skull with the caption "Skull of Cro-Magnon woman, showing fracture of the bone". The Cro-Magnons, or Early European modern humans (EEMH) were the first early modern humans (Homo sapiens) to settle in Europe, continuously occupying the continent possibly from as early as 56,800 years ago. The skull is described as being found at the rock-shelter, is an Aurignacian (Upper Paleolithic) site, located at Les Eyzies, a hamlet in the commune of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, Dordogne, France.
