'Coincidence and Creativity', originals and letters and references

Papers and relating to the 'Coincidence and Creativity' project (or 'Project Exodus') and Rosen's application to the Rolex Awards for Enterprise 1981 (grant fund), based in Geneva, Switzerland. Rosen's proposed project was a study of coincidence as a factor in creativity: 'Project Exodus will be to prepare works of art for an exhibition under this title. Experience has shown that the strength of the spirit to succeed often brings forth necessary help from the environment in the form of coincidences. The observations and record of such coincidences will form part of the scientific project. The final aim is to write a book on the relationship between creativity and coincidences, based on all my past observations, the prospective 'Project Exodus', the relevant literature, and a formulation of theoretical hypotheses by which to understand such phenomena'. His application involved site work on historical sites April 1981, one and a half year preparation for an exhibition, one and half year preparation for a book.

File PP/ROS/H/4/3a contains: rules, conditions and original application form (completed and dated 28 Apr 1980); correspondence with The Rolex Awards re complementary additional material / documents Rosen submitted; ephemera, cuttings and letters connected to the project; a subject and name index. Files PP/ROS/H/4/3b-d are partial copies of the content of H/4/3a but also contain some originals such a photographs and other pages which are not in the first file. Files PP/ROS/H/4/3b-d do not exactly duplicate the pages that are in the first file that contains the original application form. PP/ROS/H/4/3e mainly consists of selected photocopies. These files seem to have been a related series, one file of originals and 4 files labelled 'letters and references'.
