Description

Photograph of an oil painting, possibly of Richard Wiseman (1622-1676), English surgeon to King Charles II, standing with left hand on book. This work's subject was previously identified as Sir P. Lely. The painting was acquired at auction by Henry Wellcome on 27 January 1912 from Oppenheim and accessioned by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum on 27th June 1947 (P234/1947).
