Biographical note
Helen Margaret Nicholson established the Newcastle study circle in 1949 and gradually became more involved in the running of Casualties Union, holding the positions of Chairman (1970-1972), Editor of the journal (1980s) and Vice President (elected in 1983) at various points. She was awarded an MBE in 1977.
