Retreat film ‘Light through the Cloud’ (1955) (modern copy on DVD)

This film was made in 1955 and it described the life and work of nurses at the Retreat. It was distributed through the central film library. This was part of the Retreat’s campaign to address the problem - shared by all mental hospitals at this period - of an acute shortage of mental nurses. The film was designed as an aid to attracting and recruiting new nursing students by showing that mental nursing was an interesting and rewarding career.
