Biographical note
William Beattie joined the nursing staff at Crichton Royal Institution in 1928, gaining promotion to Deputy Matron in 1958. He served on the staff for 34 years retiring in 1962. He was an active member of staff and played with the Crichton Marina Dance Band in the 1930s. He received an MBE in 1991 for his voluntary work in Banffshire, where he retired to. His wife Elsie Menzies was a Nurse at Crichton Royal from 1928 to 1938 and 1939 to 1962.
