Biographical note

The Dartford Clubhouse was the first Clubhouse in Britain. The Clubhouse day-care model was already established in America and the Dartford Clubhouse founder, the American Marcus Gramps, attempted to bring the model to the UK. Care in the Community patients would attend the Clubhouse and help with the running of the day centre (cooking, cleaning, and working in the offices) and also help other patients with tasks such as applying for benefits, budgetting, and finding work and accommodation.

The Dartford Clubhouse Newsletter contained articles mainly by club members, and was edited by staff and printed onsite. Beales was asked to produced artwork for the covers, which he did for over 5 years. The Newsletter was produced for Clubhouse attendees, though it was also sent out to other Clubhouses as the network. After the Clubhouse moved to Endeavour House in Twisleton Court, Dartford, the newsletter was renamed Endeavour House Newsletter. As well as sending out newsletters the Clubhouse also received newsletters from other Clubhouses, such as the Forest Gazette.

Room with a View, The MIND Exchange Magazine and MIND Tenant's Tabloid were newsletters produced for tenants of MIND housing projects, with articles and illustrations by MIND staff and tenants.
