    The need for Voluntary Service and Voluntai Support of Hospitals will continue under thi new National Health Service. HOSPITALS WILL STILL BE ABLE TO ACCEPT AND RETAI GIFTS OF MONEY AND OTHER PROPERTY. >• .? - . <* ';’V« so long as these gifts are made upon trusts which provide for the application of the gifts for some specific object distinct from the general purposes ofjthe hospital, and involving expenditure of a ‘capital nature which can be either indicated by thje donor or at the discretion of the Management Committee. After the Act comes into force the n|w hospital Management Committee will —continue to apply these moneys locally according td their discretion subject to the direction in the Act that so far as is reasonably possible, the -objects of the endowment and any conditions attaching thereto shall be observed, including in particular conditions intended to preserve the memory of any person or persons. THUS HOSPITALS WILL HAVE SOME FUNDS AT THEIR DISPOSAL BY WHICH IMPROVEMENTS AND ADDITIONS NOT OTHERWISE PROVIDED FOR MAY BE MADE AT THE DIS¬ CRETION OF THE HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. Examples of objects implied are research, com¬ forts and amenities both for patients and staff. It is hoped that this will be made widely public, as it is known that due to the impression created by the original proposals some intending bene¬ factors have already cancelled their legacies and gifts. Advice on this matter will be gladly given by the Secretary-Superintendent to any who desire it.
