About this work
Description
The Plant Protection agreement appears to have related to chemicals used to treat plants grown for food, in the broadest sense. Insecticides and weedkillers are the chemicals most commonly discussed at meetings of the committee. Plant Protection Ltd minutes appear elsewhere in this series.
The committee met usually every two months, although there are occasionally other intervals between meetings. Representatives of Coopers and ICI sat on the committee, which usually consisted of 6-8 members, with others invited to individual meetings.
Matters discussed at committee meetings are broadly as outlined on pp 1-3 of the volume, that is to say: manufacturing, packing, supply of raw materials, liaison, distribution, product names, bulk orders, and the general administration of the co-operation agreement. Meetings took place at the offices both of Coopers and ICIANZ.
There is an index at the front of this volume.
The problem of rabbit control by fumigation is discussed on p. 27.
On pp 40-41 there is a description of trials for insecticide E605, which had inconclusive results and indicated that crops could be damaged by the insecticide applications.
Difficulties resulting from the poor supply of DDT made by ICIANZ are noted on p. 96.
