Correspondence regarding a visit to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology at Hyderabad, India, at the invitation of Dr P M Bhargava. "I am in the process of setting up a new laboratory - the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology, which will be the first institute in the country exclusively for modern biology" (Bhargava to Crick, 11 February, 1981).
Bhargava to Crick, 14 April, 1981: "While you are here, I would ask you for two lectures: one a popular one at which you may expect anywhere from 1000-1500 people, and the other a technical one for our laboratory and a few other invitees (though even at the technical lecture I would be surprised if I can keep the audience below 400)."
Crick provided a lecture entitled "DNA Today" on 10 November, 1981, and a 'Popular Science' lecture billed as "The Brain Cortex" on 12 November, 1981. The file contains a newspaper report and interview, and includes a photograph of Crick in India (The Hindu, 15 November, 1981).
The file also includes full itinerary details and a number of local publications, including A Note on the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (March 1981), and two issues of Patrika (Newsletter of the Indian Academy of Sciences, issues for December 1980 and June 1981).
