About this work
Description
Copies and enlargements of fingerprints from Hooghly district in West Bengal, India, sent to Galton by Sir William Herschel. The prints were taken from the same people in 1878 and 1892 and the two sets compared to determine whether they had changed over time. Also includes notes, labels, diagrams, charts, tracings and an offprint of "Supplement to 'Finger Prints'" by Francis Galton; London, Macmillan, 1893. Fragile material such as tracings are in a separate folder.
