Biographical note
The Wellcome Trust Monitor was initiated to explore public awareness, interest, knowledge and attitudes relating to medical research. It was also intended to build an understanding of the societal and educational context of funded research and to influence strategy in relation to public engagement and education. Monitor reports and datasets are made freely available after each survey in order to provide an impartial and objective source of evidence on public attitudes.
The first Wellcome Trust Monitor survey (Wave 1) took place in 2009 and surveyed over one thousand adults and young people in the UK. Wave 2 took place in 2012 and Wave 3 in 2015. In 2018 the Wellcome Global Monitor was launched to understand how people around the world think and feel about science and key health challenges.
