Biographical note
The Wellcome Image Awards were first launched in 1997.
In 2011, Wellcome Images partnered with the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, bringing images of their work into the Awards. Since 2011 Wellcome and the Koch Institute have each contributed an image to the other’s Awards and provide a judge for the other’s panel.
In 2018 the Wellcome Image Awards were rebranded and restructured as the Wellcome Photography Prize, which aims to highlight the power of imagery to communicate stories of health, medicine and science.
