About this work

Description

Correspondence re Campaign's enquiries into T H Chamberlain's background and fund-raising methods, whether the Campaign should be associated with him, and re his false claims of having donated equipment to the Campaign.

The International Cancer Research Organization, Inc. was set up in 1948 by T H Chamberlain of New York, to finance the bringing to the USA of doctors and technicians hoping to study at American cancer institutions, and to raise funds to purchase equipment and materials, hard to come by, for cancer research in Europe. The Campaign asked the American Cancer Society for information on Chamberlain. There were concerns over the nature of his fund-raising: Scotland Yard had a file on him and he was suspected to have been a profiteer during World War II. At this time he was not approved by the Better Business Bureau in the USA nor the UK's National Information Bureau. The Campaign wanted nothing to do with him.
