Baroni was professor of surgery and obstetrics at Bologna University in 1825. In 1836 Pope Gregory XVI made him Direttore della Sanità Militare for the Papal Dominions, but after the troubles in Rome 1847-1850, he was not re-appointed by Pius IX.
