About this work
Description
These are files of correspondence, including incoming and copies of outgoing letters on provisions, kitchen and other equipment, orders, etc. Advertisements occasionally are included with letters. The incoming letters are very similar to those in the Steward's Correspondence Files in RET 4/2/2 above. Presumably letters were filed separately under the title Housekeeping when they generated, or were the result of, letters from the Retreat, whereas the correspondence in RET 4/2/2 was merely noted and filed, needing no reply The content of the material in the Housekeeping Files also overlaps with that in the Kitchen Files and the Food Files, RET 4/3/2 and RET 4/3/4, as well as material in Steward's Bills and Invoices, RET 3/3/3, and in Furnishings RET 4/5. See also RET 4/4 for menus and diet
