Biographical note
The International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP) was born from the International Liaison Committee of Medical Physics, which formed after the 1959 Congress of Radiology in Munich. IOMP was established in 1963 to organise international cooperation in medical physics and to promote the exchange of information across the world. Participating countries were represented by delegates who attended IOMP meetings and congresses. Each member country established a National Committee for Medical Physics, which was then affiliated to the International Organisation of Medical Physics. The group was chaired by Dr S Benner, Sweden, and affiliated to the International Organisation for Pure and Applied Biophysics.
