About this work
Description
Illustrated manuscript representing the practices of the Chūjō school of midwifery and perinatal medicine supposedly founded by Chūjō Takewaki in the late sixteenth century. This copy was made in 1830 by Tōunzan Gyokusui.
The techniques of the school, which were based on Chinese pharmacology and expounded in 中条流産科全書 (compiled 1668, published 1751) remained for the most part a hiden or secret tradition passed on to pupils orally. No other manuscript of the same title survives, but related works also in manuscript are recorded such as Sanzengo hiden,(Chūjōryū) Samzen sango kuden hisho and Chūjōryū sanka zensho.
