Reproduction from Rüff, Jakob, De conceptu et generatione hominis..., Frankfort: G. Corvinus for S. Feyerabendius, 1580. The illustration depicts a parturition or birthing chair designed by Jakob Rüff in 1513, with caption above and below in Latin. Another photograph of this image was accessioned by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum on 11th October 1935 (PHO 5256).
