Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Two Marines and a young sailor on board an unidentified ship, ca. 1920s. The inscription on the verso "Looks a bit queer. Amongst two big marines ...", suggests that the general population was aware of homosexuality at the beginning of the twentieth century, although it was still a subject deemed too shocking to be mentioned in polite society and the press".
