Description

Black and white reproduction of a botanical engraving of "Quina Quina Prima", attributed to "J. Hawkeens" possibly John Hawkins (formerly incorrectly catalogued as J. Howkins), dated 1742. The illustration was possibly reproduced as part of the facsimiles exhibited in Malaria section of the international celebration and exhibition : three hundredth anniversary of the first recognized use of cinchona by Europeans, 1630-1930 hosted by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1930. The facsimile is one of "two engraved plates"and is listed as exhibit no. 985 in the souvenir catalogue and was lent by the British Museum (Natural History).
