Biographical note
The ICM represents midwifery globally at the WHO and UN, and is the only international midwives' organisation in official relations with the WHO. Member associations are able to nominate midwives who can attend meetings to represent the ICM over the 3 year cycle. The ICM has a leading role in collaborative projects with WHO and UNICEF under the Safe Motherhood Initiative (SMI), and is involved in global programmes to address maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity specifically in less developed countries.
