Biographical note
Lionel Penrose was head of the Galton Laboratory during George Fraser's time there as a Ph.D. student between 1957-1959. Fraser states in this lecture that he 'thoroughly enjoyed two years of the most stimulating and the most intellectual academic environment which I have ever known'.
