    Income, and not by any increase of the Capital Debt. The Asylum is amply sufficient for the proper accommodation of those for whose wants it is necessary to provide. There are in it 4 private patients, and the Committee is ready to receive others of the same class at a reasonable charge; but before any are sent full information must be supplied to the Medical Superintendent, and an answer and instructions received from him. There are also in the Asylum 4 criminal lunatics who are technically classed as private patients. The Committee is well satisfied with the manage¬ ment of the Asylum, and in general with the conduct of its Officers and Servants, and the care of the patients under their charge. Some complaints have been made by patients or by their friends, and the visitors have not neglected to make the requisite investigations into them. They have not found, as regards the present staff, any instance of serious mis¬ conduct. The health of Mrs Horton, the late House-keeper of the Asylum, which has for a long time been failing, has quite broken down. She had faithfully served the Institution for many years, and a super¬ annuation allowance of £50 a-year has been granted to her, and confirmed by the Bodies in Union. Miss Watton—her assistant, and in fact, deputy since January 1883—has been chosen to fill her place.
