Biographical note
Gene Ontology is a major, collaborative bioinformatics initiative to ensure consistent descriptions and terminology are used across databases. It was originally constructed in 1998 by the Gene Ontology Consortium. The European Bioinformatics Institute is one of the major participating groups.
