Acquisition note

The photographs in WTI/EAT/A-J were given to the Wellcome Tropical Institute (WTI) in November 1988 by William Hepburn Russell Lumsden, former director of the East African Trypanosomiasis Research Organization (former WTI reference WTI/30). In 1989 the archives of the WTI were transferred to the library at Wellcome Collection;

The Annual Reports in WTI/EAT/K were given to the library at Wellcome Collection in July 2001 by Pamela Lumsden, wife of W.H. R. Lumsden (Acc.No.959 part);

Photographs and manuscript material by E.A. Lewis relating to work with the East African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Research and Reclamation Organisation were given to the library at Wellcome Collection in September 2008 by the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford (Acc.No.1613).

Biographical note

The East African Trypanosomiasis Research Organization (formerly called the East African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Research and Reclamation Organization) was based in Tororo, Uganda. Its director from 1957 to 1963 was William Hepburn Russell Lumsden, MD, FRSE, FRCP(Ed) (b.1914).
