Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "A Private and a Lance-Corporal from the East Kent Mounted Rifles. This photograph captioned 'Two hearts that beat as one' would seem to imply that not only were young working-class British men aware that homosexual love existed, but that they were sufficiently relaxed about it to pose for this spoof 'romantic' photograph".
