Society for Protection of Science and Learning

This file relates to the Advisory Sub-Committee for Medical Research Refugees formed to scrutinise and advise the Society for the Protection of Science and Learning (SPSL) following applications of German and Austrian refugee doctors who sought assistance from the SPSL in obtaining research positions. Hart served on this sub-committee and the file includes the SPSL's invitation to him in 1938, minutes of meetings and lists of named refugee scientists of various nationalities (1938-1940). Also includes material regarding wider discussions of alien and refugee doctors (1940-1941), including minutes of Home Office Medical Advisory Board Committee. Later correspondence with the Bodleian Library and the University of Hull relates to the history and significance the sub-committee itself (1984).
