This file contains correspondence dating from the early part of McMichaels career until he suffered a serious stroke in September 1982 which effectively ended his professional career.
Included are letters written by McMichael to John McNee whilst Beit Fellow; copies of letters asking for funding whilst he was working at the University of Edinburgh in the 1930s; a telegram offering him a professorship at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario during the war (along with his telegram declining the post); correspondence relating to his application for, and appointment to, the chair of the British Postgraduate Medical School; a letter from the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, informing him that he had been awarded the Cullen Prize; a letter from the University of Edinburgh offering him the post of Chair of Medicine; correspondence relating to his time as Sims Commonwealth Travelling Professor for 1960; correspondence relating to his appointment as a Wellcome Trustee; correspondence and papers relating serving on the Advisory Committee on the Cruelty to Animals; and correspondence relating to awards and accolades presented by various medical societies.
