Biographical note
The Emergency Medical Service Centre was sited in Manchester Royal Infirmary, where it remained in 1946, but in 1947 was relocated in an old accident and emergency clinic of the Manchester Royal Infirmary at Roby St. In 1965 Prof Sir Robert Platt opened a new donor suite at Roby St. In the early 1970s donor services and the major Central Manchester collecting venue moved to Gateway House, Piccadilly, while Roby St premises became expanded laboratory services. In 1984 a new Centre housing all services was officially opened on 3 Jun by HRH Princess Alexandra
