About this work
Description
Material relating to Bankart's ophthalmic work in the county of Devon and other parts of south west England will be recorded in the records of the various hospitals at which he held a position. The majority of these records are held by Devon Record Office.
(One volume, found amongst Bankart's papers, containing case notes of patients seen at the West of England Eye Infirmary by doctors J Eyde and P L Delagarde between 1845 and 1857 has been transferred to Devon Record Office. The volume contains a loose note at the front signed by both Eyde and Delagarde and from 1854 each case is signed at the end by Delagarde. This volume cannot have been James Bankart's patients as it pre-dates his qualification. It is likely to be a case note book of the West of England Eye Infirmary which became separated from the rest of the hospital's records towards the end of Bankart's life. The notes include symptoms, examination, diagnosis, treatment and outcome. Patients from locations mainly in Devon, and some other southern and southwestern counties).
