    Lopez s Antibilious Powder. SPECIFICATION in pursuance of the conditions of the Letters Patent, filed by the said Jeanne Barbe, Ve Lopez, in the Great Seal Patent Office on the 17th May 1856. TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, I, Jeanne Barbe, Ve Lopez, of 57, Rue de Bretagne, Paris, in the Empire of France, 5 send greeting. WHEREAS Her most Excellent Majesty Queen Victoria, by Her Letters Patent, bearing date the Nineteenth day of November, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, in the nineteenth year of Her reign, did, for Herself, Her heirs and successors, give and grant unto me, 10 the said Jeanne Barbe, Ve Lopez, Her special license that I, the said Jeanne Barbe, Ve Lopez, my executors, administrators, and assigns, or such others as X, the said Jeanne Barbe, Ve Lopez, my executors, administrators, and assigns, should at any time agree with, and no others, from time to time and at all times thereafter during the term therein expressed, should and lawfully might 15 make, use, exercise, and vend, within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Channel Islands, and Isle of Man, an Invention for “ An Antibilious Powder,” upon the condition (amongst others) that I, the said Jeanne Barbe, V° Lopez, by an instrument in writing under my hand and seal, should particularly describe and ascertain the nature of the said Invention, 20 and in what manner the same was to be performed, and cause the same to be filed in the Great Seal Patent Office within six calendar months next and immediately after the date of the said Letters Patent. NOW KNOW YE, that I, the said Jeanne Barbe, Ve Lopez, do hereby declare the nature of my said Invention, and in what manner the same is 25 to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement thereof, that is to say:— The Invention consists in the preparation of an improved antibilious powder possessing peculiarly beneficial properties. The powder is prepared by mixing in a mortar about one pound and a quarter (troy) of calcined magnesia, with 30 an equal weight of finely reduced white sugar. When the two substances are intimately mixed, I pass them through a sieve ; a fourth part of the mixture is then put in a jar, and twenty-five drops of essence of aniseed poured upon it, and the whole thoroughly incorporated. Another fourth part of the powder is then taken and incorporated with the portion thus treated with aniseed by ^ rubbing the substances between the hands.
