Description
Mat Fraser is a UK-born thalidomider and probably the most well-known representative of thalidomide in the media and arts. He talks about his unconventional upbringing with two actor parents and the effect his father's homosexuality had on his mother. At school he longed to be a performer but felt restrained by his physical impairments, although later he went on to perform in bands and has been involved in stage and screen acting for most of his adult life. One of his more recent achievements was to drum for Cold Play at the closing ceremony of the Paralympics in 2012. Parts 1 and 2 of the interviews took place in Mat’s home in Stanmore on 12 November 2012. Part 3 took place in Mat’s home in December 2012. A seventh interview was undertaken but has been retained by the interviewee.
