'The Release and Assay of Hormones in the Circulation'

File consists of final versions of papers, draft papers, photographs (to be used as figures) and correspondence related to the paper by J.R. Vane, "The Release and Assay of Hormones in the Circulation", The Scientific Basis of Medicine Annual Review, p336-358, 1968. The review was a publication of the British Postgraduate Medical Federation, University of London, and it was printed by The Athlone Press of the University of London. Vane's paper was based on a lecture on the same subject given by him to the British Postgraduate Medical Federation in 1967. Details include:

Printer's typed proof of the article, with manual amendments (undated).

Typed list of figures used in the paper together with copies of the figures and full titles and descriptions.

Two different later drafts of the paper with references, and a partial draft, all with annotation.

Handwritten lists of the figures that might be used in the paper and relevant slides.

Early list of references, including handwritten entries, to be cited in the paper.

A selection of handwritten re-written pages from an early draft of the paper together with a complete early draft of the paper.

Correspondence with the British Postgraduate Medical Federation ("B.P.M.F.") including; a letter from and also signed by Sir James Paterson Ross of the B.P.M.F. asking for Vane to give them a lecture in February 1967 on the subject of, "The Release and Assay of Hormones in the Circulation" in the lecture series Scientific Basis of Medicine 1966-67 (dated 20 September 1966); a letter from the B.P.M.F. which referred to an enclosed programme for the second half of the course of lectures (dated 8 February 1967); a letter from and signed by Sir John McMichael F.R.S. of the B.P.M.F. sent to Vane which thanked him for agreeing to let them publish the script (2 March 1967); Vane's response to Sir McMichael (13 march 1967); letter from the B.P.M.F. thanking Vane for his script (14 March 1967); Vane's letter to the B.P.M.F. asking for the return of the script (11 April 1967); and Vane's letter to the B.P.M.F. with changes to the manuscript (21 April 1967).

Letter from Dr D.M. Hancock at the Sunderland General Hospital asking for a copy of Vane's lecture to the B.P.M.F. (30 March 1967) and a response from Vane (30 March 1967).

Letter from Vane to Dr Kenton referring to the enclosure of his article (31 May 1967).

Correspondence primarily between Vane and the B.P.M.F. regarding a Bulgarian translation of his lecture following his visit to Bulgaria including; a letter from Vane to the publisher J. & A. Churchill Ltd regarding giving his copy of "Paton and Payne" to the Postgraduate Institute in Sofia; a letter from Vane to The Athlone Press asking for copies of the plates which were to be used in publishing the article (28 March 1968) in order to send to Professor Nicolov in Bulgaria; a letter from Vane to the B.P.M.F. asking for permission to allow a Bulgarian translation of his article (28 March 1968); and a letter from Sir John McMichael at the B.P.M.F. permitting the Bulgarian publication, provided suitable acknowledgements were given (2 April 1968).
