About this work

Description

Mikey Argy is a UK-born thalidomider with Jewish parents. She speaks openly about her mother's desire to have an abortion whilst pregnant with her after she had discovered the effects of thalidomide on unborn children. Mikey was raised predominantly by her father and attended a Steiner school. She was always involved in the thalidomide community and has strong friendships with other thalidomide impaired people. Campaigning and motherhood have dominated most of the last two decades of Mikey's life, some of which have been as a single mother to her two girls. Parts 1 and 2 of the interviews took place in Mikey’s home in Forest Row on 25 September 2012. Part 3 took place in Mikey’s home on 22 November 2012.
