' - iou Vital air is known and admitted by all men of science* chemical knowledge, or medical ability, to be the dired exclufive principle in nature, which gives power to all the adive energies of animal life; for without a fufficient fupply of Vital Air, adual exigence ceafes : it is the immediate fpring—-the kiraulus which communicates animation to every thing we fee and feel* Without the aid of Vital Air, all animals and even Vegetables die, fire . is extinguifhed, and every fubliance in nature either be¬ comes putrefcent or inert. With a fufficient fupply of Vital Air in our Syftem, we remain in health—with too fiiiall a quantity, difeafe, in its various forms, inevitably attacks us : but let a fupply of Vital Air, fUper- abundant to the demands of the mod adiVe exertions of perfed health, be thrown into the fykem, the increafe of infenfible perfpiration inftantly relieves the habit; and no kimulus of animation is felt but as an exquifite pleafure* which ceafes without fever, or an increafe of irritability i thus Vital Air ap¬ pears to be the vivifying principle which univerfally pervades all we know of exikenc-e i it fukains, yet never exhauks the powers of life, but is the fountain of health, vigour and adivity. Many medical men of eminence have ad- minikered it through the medium of the lungs ; but the quantity thus ad¬ mitted into the fykem, has been found to be very trifling* and its effeds greatly different from thofe produced by Vital Air, when concentrated and accurately combined with chemical exadnefs, and received immediately into the komach : for it is a well-known fad* that the lungs may for many years be difordered, without more than locally affeding the health; but the stomach fympathifes with the whole fyst<e*n; the blood, the brain, and nerves, are all aded upon by the stomach, by dired and neceffary impulfe.
