About this work

Description

The remit of the Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee (SEAC) was to advise the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Department of Health on transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) and their impact on human and animal health.

The Committee considered the potential human health risks posed by BSE, considering the risk of eating British beef, mechanically recovered meat and scrapie. The Committee was chaired by David Tyrrell until 1995, when he was succeeded by Professor Sir John Pattison.

Includes meeting papers, minutes and related correspondence of the Committee.
