    Broclies Improved Method of Constructing Steam-engine Boilers, $c. His Majesty’s High Court of Chancery within one calendar month next and immediately after the date of the said Letters Patent, that the same and all •> liberties and advantages whatsoever thereby: granted, should cease, determine, and become void. NOW KNOW YE, that I, the said Alexander Brodie, in compliance 5 with and in pursuance of the said proviso in the said recited Letters Patent contained, by this instrument in writing under my hand and seal, do particu¬ larly describe and ascertain the nature of my said Invention in the said Letters Patent mentioned, and in what manner the same is to be performed, and declare the same to be in manner following, that is to say:— 10 I make my cast iron boiler of any size, in form as by the Drawing hereunder appears; the cast iron plates are made with flanges to any size that may be wanted for the boiler, and put together with rivets or screws and nutts and pasteboard between the plates : and to prevent the boiler from giving way by force of the steam, there are several wrought iron stays fixed in the inside of 15 the boiler. The boiler so made stands upon iron, so that there is scarcely one quarter of an inch but what the fire has its full power over the bottom of it. There are two fire-places, and the flue round is done with brick according to the heigth and width that may be required ; the top of the boiler is flat, and I cover it with brick. 20 In witness whereof, I, the said Alexander Brodie, have hereunto set my hand and seal, the Twenty-seventh day of June, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and five. Fig. 1 is a cross section of the boiler; the dotted dine from a shews the flue g5 that goes under, and has a brick breadth partition in the middle that equally divides it. Fig. 2 is a plan of the bottom of boiler, and also looking down upon the flue, as at a, a; at c, c, &c., in each sketch are flanges, cast to the plates, for the purpose of revitting the whole together; at D or thereabouts in the lid or top of the boiler is a man-hole 17 inches diar. 30 ALEXE (l.s.)
