Notebook containing notes on materia medica, botany and pharmacuetical prescriptions, with copy letters to various correspondents on the same subjects.

Correspondents include Friedrich August Flückiger (1828–1894), Swiss pharmacologist, Thomas Anderson (1832–1870), botanist at Calcutta, George Bidie (1830–1913), Hugh Francis Clarke Cleghorn (1820–1895) and Lestock Wilson Stewart (1824–1876), surgeons in Madras, George Christopher Molesworth Birdwood (1832–1917), Indian colonial official and curator of Bombay museum, Robert Lambert Playfair (1828–1899), author and colonial administrator, Henry Fletcher Hance (1827–1886), botanist in Hong Kong, George Henry Kendrick Thwaites (1812–1882), botanist in Ceylon, and Theodoro Peckolt (1822–1912), Brazilian botanist. Several of the copy letters are written from Palazzo Orengo, Thomas Hanbury's property at Mortola on the Italian Riviera, and the location of the Hanbury Gardens, for which Daniel Hanbury procured many exotic plants via his worldwide scientific contacts.

With various press cuttings of general interest and manuscript notes pasted inside the covers.

1 volume 1 volume: approx. 225 x 185 mm., 136 ff. (original pagination 1-262 and unnumbered). Half green leather binding, with grey-green buckram-covered boards and marbled end leaves and edges. Front board stamped in gilt 'N.B.9'. 14 loose enclosures inside front cover. Two pressed botanical specimens at ff. 91 and 93.
