Biographical note
FlyBase is an online bioinformatics database for Drosophila melanogaster. It holds a complete annotation of the Drosophila genome, a database of images and film and a searchable bibliography of Drosophila genetics and genomics research from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. FlyBase was set up in 1992 with funding from the United States National Institutes of Health. It also receives support from the Medical Research Council. FlyBase is maintained by Harvard University, Indiana University and the University of Cambridge. Michael Ashburner was a co-Principle Investigator for FlyBase along with Gerry Rubin, Thomas Kaufman and Kathy Matthews. William Gelbart was the Principle Investigator.
