About this work

Description

Shows the correct treatment for a fracture of the neck of the femur. A radiograph shows typical features, the patient is prepared and spinal anaesthesia is applied. The fracture is reduced by flexion verticle traction, internal rotation and extension. A radiograph shows the reduction and line of the femur. Various patients are shown. 3 segments.

Contents

Segment 1 An x-ray of a typical fracture of the femur is shown. A male patient is prepared for surgery and a spinal anaesthetic administered. The patient is transferred to the operating theatre and his leg is held in the position for surgery. The femoral fracture is reduced by flexion, vertical fraction, international rotation and extension. Both legs are under traction. The surgeon begins to determine the approximate position of the neck of the femur. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:05:25:12 Length: 00:05:25:12
Segment 2 The surgeon continues to determine the approximate position of the neck of the femur. An x-ray is taken to verify the reduction of the fracture and the line of the neck of the femur. The operation begins. The skin is punctured. Spikes are introduced into the skin punctures. The nail guide carrier is slid onto the leg. An incision is made in the leg. The nail guide is introduced. Time start: 00:05:25:12 Time end: 00:10:43:22 Length: 00:05:18:10
Segment 3 An x-ray is taken to see if the position of the guide pin is correct and what length of nail is required. The operation continues. The nail is hammered in and the nail guide removed. Traction is released. Final x-rays show the nail in the correct position. A series of patients, both male and female, and of various ages, demonstrate successful treatment by walking up and down steps and moving their legs. Time start: 00:10:43:22 Time end: 00:16:36:22 Length: 00:05:53:00
