About this work

Description

"The larger building is the house of an Hindoo merchant, and is an example of the general style of buildings on the river side inhabitated by men of that class", Thomas Daniell, quoted in Archer op. cit.

"Patna, site of the ancient city of Pataliputra, was a prosperous trading centre exporting sugar, lac. cotton. indigo, musk from Bhutan and saltpetre for gunpowder. The Dutch, French and British all had factories built along the river, the latter dealing largely in calicoes and chintzes". Archer, op. cit.
