About this work

Description

The second and third of a series of woodcuts from the seventh book of De humani corporis fabrica libri septem, that like the muscles plates of book II, show a progressive dissection, in this case of a head, the top half of the skull of which has been sawed off. The head in profile is seen with the cerebral dura mater drawn back and in the woodcut below, the cerebral hemispheres have been divided at the falx cerebri, which has been spread out over the left cerebral hemisphere
