About this work

Description

A series in which Dr. Rob Buckman travels the world to examine alternative therapies, seeking the reasons for the great surge of interest over recent years in alternative medicine. "Part 4: A Touch of Magic. Are hope and survival linked?" U.S. cancer patients flock across the border to clinics in Tijuana, Mexico, which offer a range of alternative therapies. What truth is there in the clinics' claims? The founder of the Bristol Cancer Self Help Centre, Britain describes its holistic aims. Although its critics' findings, widely publicised, were detrimental to the Centre, Dr. Buckman agrees with founder that it does improve patients' quality of life. The programme also looks at a pain management programme for sufferers of chronic pain at Walton Hospital and at a London G.P. group practice which amalgamates conventional and alternative therapies with social service
