Description
Jacob Bartsch was son-in-law of Johannes Kepler. The second figure from the left is Albrecht Dürer (holding statuette), and the fifth is Willibald Pirckheimer, both of whom are cited in the preface to Bartsch's book as people from Nuremberg who have made contributions to the arts and sciences. The preface mentions "five men" including also Adriaan Adriaanszoon, called Metius (1571-1635), Lorenz Eichstadt (1596-1660), Johannes Schöner (1477-1547), and others, who cannot be reconciled with the portraits in the engraving
